Thermal Drone Deer Recovery

We use advanced thermal imaging drones to locate downed deer quickly and efficiently, even in difficult terrain or low-light conditions. Our goal is to help hunters recover their animal with precision and speed.

How It Works

  • Contact us immediately after the shot and mark the GPS location.
  • Stop tracking the Deer to avoid pushing it further away.
  • We deploy quickly to your location.
  • Drone search is conducted using thermal imaging.
  • Exact recovery coordinates provided.

Pricing

  • $200 Response Fee (non-refundable)
  • $100 Finder’s Fee Dead or Alive
  • Additional search time billed hourly after 2 hours flight time at $100/hr
  • Service area includes the first 35 miles from Fairhope, Alabama. A travel fee of $1.00 per mile (one-way) applies beyond 35 miles.
Advantages of Thermal Drones

Thermal drones offer several advantages over deer tracking dogs for recovering deer. Drones can cover a large area quickly, especially in dense vegetation or difficult terrain where dogs might struggle. This can significantly reduce search time.

Thermal imaging cameras detect heat signatures, making it easier to locate a deer even in low-light conditions or when hidden under foliage. Drones also minimize disturbance to the surrounding environment and eliminate the risk of injury to dogs or hunters during the track.

However, it is important to note that thermal drones are not a replacement for deer tracking dogs in all situations. Dogs remain invaluable for tracking wounded deer that might be moving or hiding in circumstances where drones cannot detect them.

Before You Call for Deer Recovery: What You Need to Know

1. Do Not Pursue a Live Deer

If we locate your deer and it is still alive, do not pursue or chase it—even if we can see its exact       location. Using drone technology to pursue live game is illegal, and pushing a wounded deer           often causes it to run farther, making recovery much more difficult.

If the deer is alive, we will advise you on the best next steps.

2. Time Matters: The Thermal Detection Window

A deer that has recently expired will typically retain enough heat to be detected by thermal drone for approximately 24–36 hours. Environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, rainfall, and ground cover can shorten or extend that window. While we have successfully recovered a deer nearly 10 days after expiration, those conditions were highly unusual. The sooner you call, the better your chances of recovery.

3. If You Call Us (or Any Tracker), Back Out Immediately

If you decide to call us—or any recovery service—back out of the woods immediately.

Continuing to search after the shot increases the risk of jumping the deer, which can push it well outside the original area and drastically reduce recovery success. Backing out preserves the search area and gives us the best chance to locate your deer quickly and efficiently.

4. Thermal Drone Operations Work Best at Night

Thermal drone recovery is most effective at night or during heavy overcast conditions. Sunlight heats the ground, vegetation, and surrounding environment, reducing thermal contrast and making detection much harder. For the highest success rate, we typically conduct recovery flights after dark or under sustained cloud cover.

5. Help Us Stay Safe: Inform Nearby Hunters & Landowners

As a courtesy and safety precaution, please notify nearby hunters or landowners that a drone operation will be taking place. Not everyone understands what we are doing, and drone recovery operations have been mistaken for other activities. Clear communication helps prevent confusion and keeps everyone safe.

6. If the Deer Has Been Jumped, Recovery Becomes Much Harder

A deer that has been jumped or pushed often experiences an adrenaline surge and can travel extreme distances. This significantly lowers recovery success. If you suspect your deer is down, do not go back in looking for it. Call first. One unnecessary push can turn a recoverable deer into an unrecoverable one.

7. Property Lines vs. Airspace

Our drone operates under Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) airspace regulations—not property boundaries. If the airspace is legal to fly, we can search beyond property lines when necessary. However, it is the hunter’s responsibility to obtain permission to physically enter neighboring property and recover the deer if located there. Please have a dropped GPS pin ready when you call so we can quickly verify airspace restrictions.

8. What to Expect During a Recovery Flight

During the operation, you’ll be able to watch the search in real time on our on-site monitor and see exactly what we see. Our drone is equipped with thermal imaging and a spotlight to help identify and confirm heat signatures. As we grid the property, you’ll also gain a valuable aerial view of your land—often revealing trails, bedding areas, and animal movement you may not have seen before.

9. Be Part of the Experience

Thermal drone recovery is a unique experience, and we enjoy sharing it with our clients.

Feel free to take photos or videos during the operation, and you’re welcome to bring a friend or hunting partner along. If we’ve helped you, please consider sharing your experience, leaving a review, or recommending us to others. Your support helps us continue serving hunters across South Alabama and the Gulf Coast.
